  • 1961-67: Tae Soo Do (long before Taekwondo) Chung Do Kwan student at Osan Air Force Base, Korea
  • 1963: First American ever to be allowed to compete in a Korean National Championship (1st Korea Nationals)
  • 1966: First American to receive the Taekwondo Certificate of Merit from Korea Taekwondo Assoc.
  • 1967: First American to receive a 4th Degree Black Belt, earning him the title of Highest Ranked Non-Oriental in Taekwondo in the world, of which he still holds today.)
  • 1967: First American to receive the Taekwondo Master certificate, from Korean Taekwondo Association
  • 1967: Formed the U.S. Chung Do Kwan Association, headquartered in Trenton, Michigan
  • 1969: Created a unique Instructors Degree certification system – Great incentives for Black Belts
  • 1969: Author of America’s first Taekwondo training manual, titled “Korean Karate”
  • 1973: Founding member of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) May 28, 1973
  • 1973: Founding member of the Kukkiwon
  • 1973: First American Taekwondo International Master Certification by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF)

  • 1973: Coach of the U.S. Team at the 1st World Taekwondo Championship, Korea.
  • 1973: 1st World Taekwondo Championship his student, and brother Ray Sell took a bronze medal.
  • 1974: First American to receive International Referee Certification.
  • 1976: International Referee, 1st World Games-Seoul, Korea.
  • 1981: Co-Founder of The Sell Team, an International Christian Exhibition Team.
  • 1985: Began U.S. Military Crusades with his wife, Grandmaster Brenda J Sell and the Sell Team
  • 1987: 8th Degree Black Belt World Chung Do Kwan Association-Seoul, Korea.
  • 1988Public Relations Committee 1988 Olympics-Seoul, Korea.
  • 1989: U.S. Army tour to bases in Germany
  • 1989: Letter of Citation from WTF for contribution to Taekwondo.
  • 1990: Established the Annual USCDKA National Training Conference in Florida
  • 1991: 8th Degree Black Belt certified by the World Taekwondo Federation (Kukkiwon).
  • 1992: Created the annual “American Kwan’Jang Seminar Tour”, visiting all USCDKA Schools.
  • 1993: Created a series of video training tapes that established the USCDKA Video Library.
  • 1994: Created the first Computerized CD Rom training system of all WTF Taegeuk Poomse.
  • 1997: 9th Degree Black Belt by World Taekwondo Chung Do Kwan Association.
  • 2001: Passed the 9th Dan WTF & Kukkiwon certification test – 1st foreigner to ever do so
  • 2001: Commonwealth of Kentucky Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel
  • 2002: Published his 12th edition of Forces of Taekwondo
  • 2003: Invited to address Chaplain Generals at the Pentagon

  • 2004: Handed the presidency to his wife as he became the CEO of the USCDKA
